Bellus Magazine (BM):  When did you know you wanted to be an actress?

Meegan Warner (MW):  I don’t remember the exact moment when I decided I wanted to be an actress, but I think I was around 14 or 15 years old when the thought of trying to act professionally first hit me. I just really enjoyed acting and it made me feel happy.

BM:  What is your favorite part of getting to be an actress?

MW:  Just doing the work. I love having a job and working on a character. I feel very lucky to make a living doing what I love.

BM:  Tell us about your character “Mary Woodhull”

MW:  Mary is a young women married to Abraham Woodhull, a farmer who was wrangled into joining the spy ring by his friends. Mary has changed a lot over the last two seasons. She started off quite naive and obedient, but as the story progresses we discover that she’ll go to extraordinary lengths to keep her family safe.

BM:  Where can we watch TURN?

MW:  If you haven’t seen the show, the first two season’s are available on Netflix. The third season is currently airing on AMC and I think it’s our most exciting season so far.

BM:  What is next for you?

MW:  I have an Aussie film called “Scare Campaign” coming out soon. I had an absolute ball making that movie. Also an independent film previously known as “Portend”, now called “The Caretaker”, has just gotten distribution so fingers crossed that will surface in the coming months.

BM:  What advice can you give to other aspiring artist out there who want to make it in acting?

MW:  It’s a hard profession to break into and you face a lot of rejection. It’s not like any other job where if you do good work you get promoted. As an actor you can have a fantastic team behind you, you can do good auditions, get great feedback and still not book the role. I think it’s important to learn how the industry works so you don’t view every knock back as a failure. Because it’s not. A writer and director already have a vision of what they want to create and no matter how good your audition may be, it could come down to something as trivial as “they’re not tall enough” or “her hair’s wrong”. Things you have absolutely zero control over. Eventually the audition will come around where you tick all the boxes. It’s extraordinarily frustrating I know! But keep working hard, keep pushing forward, keep improving.
