Bellus Magazine had the chance to catch up again with the very handsome and talented Jake McDorman. A lot has happened since we last spoke to Jake. American Sniper came out and is now one of our new favorite movies. Jake caught our eye with his stand out role. Now Jake is starring in his own TV show titled, “Limitless”. We had the chance to watch the first episode. Lets just say we are already major fans and can’t wait to see the whole season!
Below is the full interview and photo shoot!
Bellus Magazine (BM): Thank you so much for taking the time to met with us at Bellus Magazine! We’ve been fans since, ABC Family’s “Greek”! Since then you’ve gone on to take such great roles, like Biggles, in “American Snipper”. How did it feel to take on such a heroic role? What kind of research did you do to get into character?
Jake McDorman (JM): It was a huge responsibility. It was the first time I’d be playing someone on screen who actually lived through the events being portrayed in the film. With Sniper I had the confidence that the story would be told well. It couldn’t have been placed in more capable hands than with Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper. But the reality is, the roles and experiences we were all inhabiting for just a short while belong to real people. And that was never far from the forefront of my mind. Everyone in the cast had some form of communication with the person or loved ones of the person they were playing. I was put in contact with Ryan’s family via email during the shoot. They came to the premiere in New York. It was invaluable.
BM: With your past experience in filming with Bradley Cooper, what’s is like to be working with him again in this new capacity?
JM: It’s kind of the best. For a number of reasons too many of which to list here. First of all, the material couldn’t be more different than our last experience together. So that’s a lot of fun. And we are revisiting a world that he created four years ago for the movie Limitless. So getting to be a part of that with him and carrying the story from the movie into uncharted territory is very exciting. He also just makes me better. I learn so much from working with Bradley. He truly loves the process and he’s been a vital resource for me throughout the shoot.
BM: Your career has blossomed into great, serious roles. When you look back on your career, is there anything you wish you could have told yourself, say in 2006, when you played Raymond in “Aquamarine”?
JM: Haha! No. That would disrupt the space/time continuum and I might not be where I am today. I guess if I could go back and tell myself anything, it would just be to relax. Because it’s all part of it. Every job, every experience, good or bad, work related or otherwise was crucial to what I’m doing now. At the time, it might have seemed off the mark or tedious, but it really is all part of it.
BM: You recently took a trip to Italy. What was your favorite experience? On Twitter, you’ve written, “will act for food”, so we can have to ask, what was your favorite food you got to eat while away?
JM: I did! I went to Ischia with my girlfriend for a photo shoot for CBS Watch! Magazine. We stayed at the Hotel Regina Isabella which is around where they shot The Talented Mr. Ripley. It was absolutely gorgeous. We took a train to Rome and stayed at the Hotel Hassler which is right at the top of the Spanish Steps. We saw the Coliseum, The Vatican, Sistine Chapel. It was amazing. There’s a restaurant in The Hassler that serves a 14 course meal. That has to be one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life.
BM: We know you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, what other show has you addicted in your down time? Have you ever binge-watched a show on Netflix?
JM: Oh sure. I binge watch every season of House of Cards. I finished Bloodline a few months ago. I’m in the middle of Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. I’m all about the Netflix binge.
